Master lighting plan
In 2012, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded to a National ESCO and its lighting partner Atlantic Energy Concepts a contract to evaluate and modernize lighting systems at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Va. The award which has an estimated value of $3.2 million which will be completed in 2015, will help the Pentagon meet energy efficiency goals, increase operational reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
Atlantic Energy Concepts conducted a comprehensive lighting audit and analysis for the 6.5 million square foot office complex, one of the world’s largest office buildings with 24/7 operations and workspace for approximately 23,000 military and civilian employees. Atlantic Energy Concepts will use the lighting analysis to develop a master lighting modernization plan, including a detailed engineering, environmental and economic analysis of all recommended future lighting projects.
In addition to the lighting audit and modernization plan, Atlantic Energy Concepts will also complete previously identified lighting projects aimed at reducing energy costs and increasing efficiency. These include the replacement of existing fluorescent lighting with highly efficient light emitting diode (LED) solutions, incorporation of daylight control sensors and adjustment of lighting schedules.
The project demands working in a highly secure facility such as the Pentagon create obvious challenges. Atlantic Energy Concepts development team was led by Scott Micucci, Sr. Lighting Design Engineer who oversaw the entire audit process and design portion of the master lighting plan. Scott Elison, Sr. Project Construction Manager worked with Micucci to develop the lighting controls portion of the master plan. Elison will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the planned lighting replacement in designated areas of the Pentagon. The construction phase of the project is scheduled to commence in mid 2014.
Atlantic Energy Concepts was founded in 1994 to provide customers with sustainable facility solutions that maximize energy cost savings and assist in the successful implementation of long-range overall business energy conservation strategies, while maintaining occupant comfort and productivity. Atlantic Energy Concepts has performed lighting retrofits on over a thousand projects in both the public and private sectors, including; federal, state, and local government, hospitals, universities, school districts, office buildings, retail and commercial/industrial spaces.
