Most of their facility still had original T-12 light fixtures that were installed in the 1970’s. These fixtures were not only inefficient in terms of their energy consumption, but the 8 foot lamps utilized were costly and difficult to handle. In a corporate decision to reduce overhead cost the maintenance staff had been instructed to remove every other lamp to save money. In employing this method to save energy the company sacrificed light levels for the employees work environment. The challenge was to show a positive cash flow after the lighting retrofit taking into consideration that all the fixtures would now be illuminated.
